EqHub simplifies documentation requirements

Common documentation requirements from the operators are contributing to increased efficiency and cost savings in the industry.

EqHub is part of Collabor8, a Norwegian Oil and Gas arena for experience transfer, learning and collaboration. Applying uniform standards for sharing and reusing information through the EqHub service will help to simplify and enhance efficiency in the expensive and time-consuming process of handling documentation.

Estimates suggest that EqHub will save the overall industry several hundred million Norwegian kroner annually over the next few years through simplification and reuse of information.

“This is the industry’s response to the question of how we can now eliminate today’s differences in documentation requirements, and thereby do away with the additional work associated with equipment documents,” says Øystein Arvid Håland, head of the collaborative solutions project at Norwegian Oil and Gas.

“This will ensure substantial reutilisation of equipment and a greatly simplified documentation flow, which will in turn contribute to increased competitiveness and reduced costs for suppliers.”

Offshore suppliers have long expressed a need to simplify the wide-ranging documentation requirements utilised in connection with deliveries to the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). Common standards and procedures applied by the various operators create predictable and more efficient work processes for the supplier industry.

These companies deliver the same equipment to different operators, and their products can be installed several times during a project. On each occasion, the supplier must create a standard document package which accords with the specific operator’s requirements.

Today’s document management procedures complicate choice and delivery processes, resulting in many rounds of documentation before final approval of the information submitted.

The EqHub digital service is a cloud solution which will contribute to managing standardised data and documentation across operator companies on the NCS.

Its main principle is that equipment will be registered in the service only once, and can then be used as many times as required. The supplier thereby uses less time on document handling related to project deliveries.

“Common documentation requirements from the operators have long been awaited by the supplier industry,” observes Runar Rugtvedt, director for the oil, gas and offshore wind technology suppliers at the Federation of Norwegian Industries.

“Through improved data quality, common requirements and the use of standards, EqHub will contribute to simplified communication and collaboration between operators, contractors and suppliers on the NCS. That’s an important step towards creating a competitive industry in coming years.”
