Agreement reached with Safe

A strike has been averted following a mediated settlement with the Norwegian Union of Energy Workers (Safe) over the oil agreement, which applies in part to land-based facilities.

Mediator Anne Cathrine Frøstrup put forward a proposal three hours past the deadline which was accepted by both sides.  The mediation result accords with the agreement reached between Norwegian Oil and Gas and Safe through earlier negotiations during May.

"We’re pleased to have reached agreement through the mediation process on a new collective pay agreement for the next two-year period," says Jan Hodneland, lead negotiator at the Norwegian Oil and Gas Association.

This agreement is primarily a frame settlement, which means in part that pay levels are determined/negotiated at local level. In addition to the mediation process, contacts were established between the parties locally to clarify the facts related to this year’s company-based settlements.
